Yeah, people Rekha Thapa was a top ten finalist for Miss Nepal in the year 1998. And it’s no rumor because the news has directly fallen off the horse’s mouth, Rekha Thapa herself. Before Miss Nepal , Dhankuta resident Rekha had also participated in the Miss Koshi Pagaent where she managed to get the sub-title of Miss Catwalk.
“People back home in Koshi had sent me as a representative in Miss Nepal . I was too young then, my citizenship hadn’t even been made so I guess I lost because of that” says Rekha Thapa. Adding also the very popular beauty pageant loser’s one-liner, “there was a bit of impartiality too”.
But aren’t we glad, Rekha lost. Because two years after her boot-out from the Miss Nepal pageant she signed a movie deal and there has been no looking back ever since. Beauty queens come and go, but actresses remain in the hearts and minds of people forever. No body really knows/remembers the title winner of 1998 (Neeru Shreshtha), but there will be very few people who might not recognize the ever so bold and the beautiful Rekha Thapa.
In India when the crowned beauties shove their way in to the movie industry, In our country it’s the top ten ousts that get the opportunity, and not to forget shine at it. Way to go Rekha. If only other beauty pageant rejects had enough guts to see beyond just the title crown, but…never mind.
