Lady Gaga designs charity bracelet to raise money for Japanese tsunami victims

Posted on 12 Mar 2011 at 11:48pm

She raised more than half a million dollars for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti by donating one day’s worth of merchandise and concert ticket sales.

But this time, Lady Gaga is urging her fans to dig deep to raise money for the victims of the Japanese tsunami.

In light of yesterday’s catastrophic events, the singer has designed a special charity bracelet and has asked her fans to spend just $5 (£3) on the white rubber prayer band.

A post on her website and Twitter page today said all proceeds from the band – which will be available from March 25 – will go to the Japan tsunami relief fund.

The bracelet has ‘We Pray For Japan’ written in both English and Japanese as well as an image of her ‘monster claw’, a symbol her fans use to show their love for the singer.

Gaga is a huge fan of the country and is inspired by its art and fashion and her stylist Nicola Formichetti is half-Japanese

Although she is the only celebrity to instigate a way of raising money for the victims so far, many have been taking to their Twitter pages to offer their thoughts and condolences.

Justin Bieber wrote: ‘Japan is one of my favorite places on earth…it’s an incredible culture with amazing people. My prayers go out to them. We all need to help.’

Kim Kardashian put: ‘Seeing all of this footage in Japan is devastating! Please help the people of Japan by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.’

And Glee’s Lea Michele added: ‘ So devastating to hear about the huge earthquake & tsunami Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there.’

iPad 2 Release Day: How To Get Apple’s New Tablet

Posted on 11 Mar 2011 at 12:40pm

The new iPad 2 officially goes on sale Friday, March 11, and Apple has released an announcement with instructions on when and where consumers can buy the tablet.

Users can order the iPad 2 online via Apple.com starting at 1AM PT/4AM ET on Friday, March 11.

The “magical” tablet will be available at Apple stores throughout the U.S. (there are now 236 of them, Apple notes) starting at 5PM local time. Buying the iPad 2 in an Apple store comes with an extra perk: “Every customer who buys an iPad 2 at an Apple retail store will be offered free Personal Setup service, helping them customize their iPad 2 by setting up email, loading new apps from the App Store℠ and more, so they’ll be up and running with their new iPad 2 before they leave the store,” Apple explains.

Also starting at 5PM local time, the iPad 2 will be on sale at AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores, in addition to Best Buy, Target, Walmart and “Apple Authorized Resellers.”

The iPad 2 starts at $499 (Wi-Fi only) and $629 (W-Fi + 3G).

Critics have just published their reviews of the tablet and they have good things to say. “As of now,” Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital writes, “I can comfortably recommend it as the best tablet for average consumers.”

Original iPad Price Drops

Posted on 03 Mar 2011 at 2:07pm

The launch of iPad 2 has left many questioning the fate of the original iPad.

So what will become of the original Apple tablet?

Well it seems Apple is selling off what they’ve got left. Though it’s not prominently featured on the Apple site, the original iPad is still for sale.

It’s even got a nice $100 price drop, bringing the base price down to $399.

David Beckham reveals chest tattoo of Jesus and angels for the first time

Posted on 25 Feb 2011 at 10:51pm

David Beckham posted the first pictures of his latest tattoo on Facebook .

It’s no secret that David is a big fan of body art and Victoria has even joined him with a number of decorative pieces of her own in recent years.

But the 35-year-old latest addition is would look more at home on the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel than on a person’s chest.

The tattoo is of Jesus being lifted by three cherubs, of whom David says symbolise himself and his three sons Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, 8, and Cruz, 6.

David also posted a video on Facebook explaining why he had the tattoo and what it represents.

‘It’s Jesus being carried by three cherubs and obviously the cherubs are my boys and so my thought of it is that at some point my boys are going to need to look after me and that’s what they’re doing in the picture. It means a lot.’

The tattoo is the handy work of one of LA’s biggest tattoo artists, Mark Mahoney, who has worked on a long list of famous names who include Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

David is just another in a long line of celebrities who have only good words to say about Mark. He added: ‘He’s not a tattooist who goes on and does TV programmes. He’s low key and stays out of things and is very talented. ‘

Mahoney works in West Hollywood at the Shamrock Social Club on The Sunset Strip and says he prides himself on making his customer’s experiences as memorable as possible

‘It’s called the Shamrock Social Club, not the Shamrock anti-social Club. People come here to relax and have a good time. People always remember the night they got tattooed. That’s one of the things you always remember in life, so I wanted to make that as memorable and as nice an experience as it ever could be.’

David first posted a picture of Mahoney working on his new tattoo back in December of last year . He Tweeted: ‘I want to let you all in on something. Just had a new tattoo done by the legendary Mark Mahoney.’

Today he revealed what an amazing experience it was for him. He added: ‘I had it done 3 months ago, before I left LA. I don’t plan on having a tattoo, but just sometimes I wake up with an idea or an image of what I would like on me.

‘It’s my way of expressing the way I’m feeling. Most of my tattoos are memories or things that mean a lot to me.

‘It was an 8-hour session which lasted until about 3 o’clock in the morning. I then went back a few weeks later and we did another 4 hours. It’s really is amazing.’

David’s wife Victoria is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.

Oscar De La Renta is Mad at the First Lady

Posted on 25 Feb 2011 at 2:12am

Almost two years ago, in April of 2009, Oscar De La Renta expressed disappointment over Michelle Obama’s choice of dress.  For one thing, he couldn’t understand her interest in European designers when the Americans were at her disposal, and he was downright disgusted that she wore a sweater to Buckingham Palace. And why, he asked, couldn’t she pepper her wardrobe of Jason Wu and Thakoon with something by an American great?  The drama played out over a few weeks as he basically wondered (out loud), if all the other first ladies wear my clothes, why won’t this one?

Mrs. Obama went on to wear Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan, but she still hasn’t worn Oscar De La Renta, and he’s found a new reason to be pissed.

Today, in reaction to the sweeping red Alexander McQueen gown that Mrs. Obama wore to this week’s state dinner with the President of the People’s Republic of China, De La Renta tells WWD, “My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade — American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?”

He went on to explain that he wasn’t worried about his business, “I’m old, and I don’t need it,” but was concerned about the young American designers missing out on the opportunity to dress our national style icon.  Perhaps De La Renta should get on the phone with Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Thakoon, Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo, or any of the other designers whose profiles have been boosted.  Then he can rest assured that everyone is actually pretty happy.

DON’T FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER!Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg

Posted on 07 Feb 2011 at 8:29pm

Facebook wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg has obtained a restraining order against a Californian man who he says has been stalking him, ktmfashion.com is reporting.

The 26-year-old billonaire filed legal papers claiming Pradeep Manukonda, 31, tried to “follow, surveil and contact Mr. Zuckerberg using language threatening his personal safety,” so much so he fears for his safety and that of his girlfriend Priscilla along with his sister.

Facebook security also “intercepted” Manukonda at Zuckerberg’s Palo Alto, California, home on January 24.

“Just as he (Mark) was about to walk up the front steps,” the court papers state.

While Zuckerberg is not listed as a friend of Manukonda on the social networking site he created, the former Harvard student’s sister Randi still is.

Randi works on marketing, politics, current events & non-profits for Facebook.

The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple Inc. The 1993 Apple Newton MessagePad 100

Apple’s development of a tablet computer began with the Newton MessagePad 100, which was introduced in 1993. The effort led to the creation of the ARM6 processor core with Acorn Computers. Apple also developed a prototype PowerBook Duo-based tablet computer named the PenLite, but didn’t release it to market as the company didn’t wish to affect sales of the Newton MessagePad.  Apple brought out several more Newton-based PDAs, and discontinued the last of the line, the MessagePad 2100, in 1998.

Development of the iPad continued following the discontinuation of the MessagePad 2100. Parts of this development process, especially relating to the development of iPhone OS, were combined with that of the iPhone and iPod Touch, and integrated technologies Apple had acquired from its acquisition of FingerWorks in 2005.The product was announced on January 27, 2010, at an Apple press conference at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The device’s imminent release had been rumored for several months with iSlate and iTablet among speculated names.

Three days later, at the 52nd Grammy Awards, Stephen Colbert used an iPad in announcing the first nominee.

Micro-SIM Card used in the iPad and a Mini-SIM used by most cell phones

In an e-mail to customers at the time of launch, Apple wrote

Application availability and pricing are subject to change. This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

The iPad is to go on sale at the end of March 2010 (Wi-Fi version, worldwide) and end of April (Wi-Fi + 3G version, in the United States and some other countries). International 3G prices are to be announced summer 2010.The Wi-Fi + 3G iPad will be unlocked so it can be used on other mobile carriers that support GSM micro-SIMs. 3G will be provided in the U.S. by AT&T and sold with two prepaid contract-free data plan options: one for unlimited data and one for 250 MB/month at half the price. The plans will be activated on the iPad itself and can be canceled at any time.

Product name controversy

Like the iPhone, the iPad shares its name with existing products. The most publicised of these relates to the Fujitsu iPAD, introduced by Japanese company Fujitsu in 2002. This is a mobile multi-functional device sold to retailers to help clerks verify prices, check inventory, and close sales. Fujitsu applied for the trademark in 2003 but this was hampered by the mark already being owned by Mag-Tek. Fujitsu’s application was listed as “abandoned” in April of 2009. As the ownership, if any, of the mark is unclear. Fujitsu is consulting attorneys over what, if any, action it may take.

In the first few days after the iPad’s release, some media and many online commenters criticized the name iPad, noting its similarity to “pad”, the common name for a sanitary napkin.

Wired News said some women said this would make them less likely to buy the product.Shortly after the launch announcement, the hashtag “iTampon” became the number-two trending topic on the social networking site Twitter This is in contrast to IBM/Lenovo’s ThinkPad line of computers that while also open to a similar name comparison have not to date widely attracted this type of public comment or criticism.

Facebook Gets Ready For Possible 2012 IPO

Posted on 12 Jan 2011 at 8:58pm

facebook announced it will begin disclosing financial results by April of 2012, after a Goldman Sachs document revealed the company’s financials, showing a $355 million profit on $1.2 billion in revenue for the first nine months of 2010, the New York Times reports.

Goldman Sachs sent the document to potential investors which stated the social network’s plans to increase the number of shareholders above 500. This would trigger the need to report financials. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly been wary of an IPO, but investor interest in the company has been strong.

The Wall Street Journal says the full-year 2010 revenue will likely reached $1.9 billion-$2 billion.
